Main purpose of the job:
The Environmental, Safety & Heath Specialist (Officer) has the responsibility to ensure that the site is following the Management System (GDS) and are compliant to applicable standards and local legislative requirements.
To assess the site management systems effectiveness, ensure corrective actions, implementation, initiate improvements, and report on progress.
All local procedures must align with the GDS requirements.
40% of the time should be spent on the manufacturing floor, to among other things observe operations, identify hazards and corrective actions, and engage as many employees as possible in the effort to achieve local HSE/ EHS objectives.
Main missions and results:
Outline and define how the requirements for Health Safety & Environmental, (HSE/EHS), from a management systems point of view will be met. (GDS, global documentation system)
Has the authority and the responsibilities allowing them to ensure that the requirements of management systems (GDS), of HSE standards applicable and of customer requirements are permanently met for the site under their responsibility.
Document the local management system in a manual and documents required.
Help to share business practices and documentation.
Assess the effectiveness of the management systems by regular internal audits, also support audits of other sites across the business.
Report to the Management Team about management systems audit results and status about related corrective actions.
Ensure that deviations found during internal system audits are closed within the appropriate time frame.
Advise the Management Teams of the sites under their responsibility and the Management Systems Manager about the measures necessary to increase the management systems effectiveness.
Train and coach plant management teams to establish and maintain a documented management system meeting the requirements of ISO14001/ISO 45001 and other environmental, health & safety standards and customer requirements applicable.
Support and guide the location during the preparation for 3rd party audits. Is responsible to ensure that deviations found are closed within the appropriate time frame by the plants under their responsibility and by the plants/departments/positions that they have audited.
Keep themselves informed on the changes, health safety & environmental legislation, ensuring that new legislation is reviewed and added to legal registers.
Participate in the Management Review ISO14001/ISO45001 for the site. Report on HSE status and provide advice on improvement activities.
Ensure that HSE programmes are defined and that related actions are implemented
Make sure to manage their activities to guarantee that the items mentioned above are completed as appropriate for their location.
Coach the management team on HSE matters.
Maintains a good knowledge of all procedures related to their position and activities.
Gives personal example of adherence to these procedures.
Requires the same from their subordinates. Considers company’s policies and procedures knowledge and consistent application as a key element in any individual performance evaluation.
Clear communication, coaching, and to support employees to address EHS/ HSE concerns
Company Policies and Procedures, clear communication of the ZERO Tolerance Policy, transparency, ensuring escalation of HSE concerns to the corporate management team.
A support function for their location.
Preferred skills and experience:
Preferably over 5 years of experience in the automotive industry, of which 3 years as quality and/or HSE engineer, or over 5 years of experience in production sector as HSE Engineer and/or Specialist.
Engineer in chemistry, machinery, or mechanics; degree related to environment and/or health & safety; or equivalent education.
Perfect knowledge of ISO14001/ISO 45001, of applicable EHS legislation and of customer requirements.
Knowledge of ISO/IATF16949.
Fluent in English.
PC Literate
Knowledge and use of MS-Office.
Excellent organisational and communication skills
Empathic and active listener
Must be able to manage several tasks/activities
NEBOSH or equivalent HSE qualification
