The Opportunity

This function is responsible for the functional safety verification of battery management controls software.
Level: A Specialist Professional (P4) is a recognized subject matter expert in job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experience. Responsibilities typically include:

  • Understand and co-ordinate activities between all stakeholders in order to deliver safety-related verification activities

  • Ensure common approach and common technical solutions where possible across all projects

  • Ensure that ISO26262 [Part 6]/[Parts 4&5] are satisfied.

  • Problems faced are difficult and often complex.

Tasks include:

Using requirements to derive test cases. 

Write test cases in gherkin (BDD) and stored within X-Ray, a subset of JIRA.

Execute manual test cases on HiL Rigs (Dspace, vector or NI) and create test report.

Create defect tickets for software failures or other issues faced.

The test case author shall:

1.1.1 Create the tests based on the system requirements (reviewed, approved, and baselined), considering the requirements verification criteria.

1.1.2 Take into consideration the test methods & the methods for deriving the tests (according to ISO 26262-6.12) before test creation, mentioning them in the test.

1.1.3 Provide:

  • detailed test description (test purpose) in natural language form 

  • pre-conditions

  • test flow or test sequence 

  • post-conditions

  • evaluation criteria

  • link between the tests and the system requirements.

1.1.4 Assure the consistency (through a report - traceability report) between tests and requirements, evaluate the eventual existence of suspect flags (indication that the test must be updated due to requirement change)

1.1.5 Store the generated report under version control (object under review)

1.1.6 Freeze (baseline) the content of the test.

1.1.7 Inform the review stakeholders to proceed the review activity (automatic notifications through state change – e.g. Review)

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential:

  • Technical knowledge of ISO26262 [Part 6]/[Parts 4&5]

  • Experience of successful delivery of test cases, verification methods and their execution on complex electrical software

  • Knowledge of planning, co-ordination, delivery to support the Cycle Plan programmes using Product Creation Delivery System (PCDS) principles

  • Demonstrable experience in conducting problem solving using formal methods (8D, DMAIC, Six Sigma)

  • Experience of delivering technical solutions within a team

  • Experience of delivering projects at a high pace using an Agile mindset 

  • Degree or relevant equivalent experience preferred

Key Performance Indicators

  • Percentage of safety-related requirements coverage by test cases

  • Design Verification Plan in place against the assigned programme with respect to functional safety

  • Execution status of all safety-related test cases

  • Number of safety-related issues found/raised in JIRA (Bugs) or Software Issues Management System (SIMS)

  • ISO26262 compliance

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Understand and co-ordinate activities between all stakeholders in order to deliver safety-related verification activities

  • Ensure common approach and common technical solutions where possible across all projects

  • Help build synergies between all projects where possible

  • Ensure that functional safety targets are met with respect to the charging systems

  • Develop effective working relationships with electrical, chassis and software development teams in order to deliver against functional safety targets

  • Use the FMEA process to ensure all escape points are covered.

  • Work with software teams to ensure the best and most efficient control system logic is applied to meet the functional safety requirements.

  • Ensure that ISO26262 [Part 6]/[Parts 4&5] are satisfied.
