Position Purpose Statement
The Food Material Sciences team sits within the Ingredient Research group.
The role of Ingredient Research (IR) is to drive sustainable competitive advantage in discovery of insulated technologies that enable great tasting snacks with wellbeing credentials.
The role at Senior Technician is responsible for performing a range of sample preparation and processes using basic lab equipment and small-scale food production kits under the supervision of a more senior staff member.
You ensure effective organization of your workload, the integrity of the data generated and the timely and accurate reporting of results, highlighting where unexpected results were observed.
You also oversee the experimental workspace, adhering to all food safety and quality policies.
You will prepare, operate and maintain the equipment and ingredients for the efficient and effective operation of the experimental workspace (Ingredient Research Innovation Space) while working to the highest standards of safety and quality by ensuring that food safety and quality policies are adhered to including risk assessments, SOPs, HACCP and good manufacturing processes.
Responsibilities:
Provide high quality stakeholder engagement at all times by ensuring effective organisation of assigned workload.
Provide high quality samples/prototypes, high quality data and timely/accurate provision of results.
Perform a range of sample preparation and operate equipment in a pilot plant setting (Ingredient Research Innovation Space) under supervision of a senior member of staff.
Operate basic lab equipment as directed.
Run trials within given deadlines and in accordance with GMP and HACCP requirements.
Support training in the pilot plant (IRIS) of Ingredient Research colleagues in routine activities and methods.
Perform pilot plant (IRIS) admin and housekeeping duties as directed.
Will be expected to work across the different Ingredient Research teams, if the demand is required.
Qualifications:
Educated to Degree / HNC level in a relevant scientific discipline.
Good understanding of relevant process/product technology.
Able to demonstrate experience of practical application of theory in food or engineering/scientific related discipline.
