​Position Description:

  • The Opportunity In this role, you will lead Kinematics and Compliance rig test activities on a range of company and competitor vehicles, collecting, processing, and disseminating data required to deliver leadership in vehicle dynamics against worldclass competition.

  • The ability to understand vehicle and system performance within a controlled rig environment is critical to increasing customer satisfaction and to reducing time to market by providing accurate data to guide vehicle development activities.

  • As part of this role, you will also be responsible for the development of new test and data analysis methodologies providing crucial link between objective and subjective vehicle level performance and system performance.

  • To be successful, the candidate will need to possess a high level of drive and leadership, be capable of independent working to tight deadlines, and display technical acumen.

Skills Required:

  • Proven vehicle or chassis development experience.

  • Proven rig test or vehicle objective test experience.

  • Strong knowledge of suspension performance and vehicle dynamics theory.

Experience Required:

  • Proven rig test or vehicle objective test experience

  • Proven vehicle or chassis development experience

  • Strong knowledge of chassis and vehicle dynamics

  • Experience with data processing tools such as Matlab, Prosig DATS, LMS Project and test plan management.

  • Full UK or equivalent driving license

  • Proven inter-personal communication networking skills

Experience Preferred:

  • Experience with relevant virtual tools such as Simpack, Carmaker, Matlab Simulink

  • Engineering relevant degree qualification Vehicle dynamics subjective evaluation skills

  • Previous experience of problem solving tools e.g. Root Cause Analysis, 8 Disciplines of problem solving, Design of Experiments

Education Required:

  • Be the key interface between Vehicle Dynamics department and K&C rig operations Continuously improve test efficiency and effectiveness

  • Develop processes to disseminate data to development engineers

  • Develop additional K&C rig capabilities to maintain JLR technical leadership in this area

  • Work on crossrig interaction, maximising the value of data generated from K&C in both physical and virtual domains

  • Prepare reports from K&C data and communicate observations drawing meaning from data to assist VeD development engineers.

  • Develop capability to link vehicle level performance with K&C data

  • Provide kinematics and compliance theoretical and practical training to engineers

  • Keep abreast of competitor and industry trends applicable to kinematics and compliance tests, instrumentation and data analysis

  • Support the team towards understanding of complex technical issues and their resolution

  • Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested

  • Maintain close collaboration with vehicle level objective test teams

Education Preferred:

  • KPIs Ensure that all vehicle kinematics and compliance tests are performed to quality and to agreed deadlines, results immediately disseminated to development engineers drawing meaning from data, and where applicable next development steps recommended.

  • Improvements to test methods, metrics and utilising developing additional rig capabilities identified, prioritised and deployed.

  • Integration of newly developed K&C rig capabilities in overall vehicle dynamics development process.
