​OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

  • To develop seating systems and subsystems that meet all project specifications and requirements from concept to stable production at rate.

  • This includes the creation of 3D geometry and the generation of 2D drawings that define products that meet or exceed the requirements set out in the product specification.

  • The role includes participation in problem solving activities, seat build events, customer, supplier and internal meetings and other team events.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop 3D geometry for components and assemblies using Catia V5 or NX software

  • Create complete and unambiguous 2D drawings that properly define the 3D geometry

  • Apply geometric tolerancing and datum strategies to drawings in accordance with applicable standards

  • Manage 2D and 3D data files within the Lear Product Lifecycle Management system (based on Teamcentre)

  • Participate in releasing activities and meetings relevant to the project.

  • Convert data files from native format to customer or supplier format - STEP, JT etc.

  • Perform package studies to ensure robust system integration

  • Perform and check tolerance calculations to ensure functional requirements are met

  • Have working knowledge of legal, customer and Lear seating and safety requirements and ensure models comply with those requirements.

  • Ensure the product is feasible to manufacture, by providing adequate tool access, removing blind operations etc.

  • Participate in the building of Moment of Truth (prototype) seats and creating physical component mock ups.

  • Support the Lear and customer manufacturing facilities in resolving technical issues

  • Manage and coordinate and audit best cost country offshore tasks and project work

  KEY SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Essential:

  • 5 years' experience using the required CAD software

  • CAD 3D modelling to expert level

  • CAD 2D detailing/ drawing creation

  • Tertiary level STEM qualification or 5 years relevant experience.

  • Ability to check and approve an engineering drawing

  • Highly competent in MS-excel and PowerPoint     

Desirable:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering

  • 5 years' experience in automotive seating

  • 4 years' experience in plastic component design

  • Driving license
