​We are currently recruiting for a permanent Hardware Supervisor - Electronics & Instrumentation, contracted to our Basildon site with majority time remote working. The main purpose of the role is to supervise a large team of hardware engineers, manage hardware project deliverables and design and develop electronic hardware.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Supervise hardware engineering staff and check that man-hours, investments and expenses are spent and recorded on appropriate/correct projects

  • Ensure that manpower, material and budget needs are available to successfully carry out the responsibilities in the hardware projects to required quality level.

  • Plan, allocate and follow-up human resource requirements for each R&D engineering project.

  • Plan, budget, request and control investments and expenses for each R&D engineering project.

  • Plan and monitor overall hardware engineering resources, request and recruit additional resources as required.

  • Identify training needs and establish education plans/training programs for hardware engineering staff.

  • Monitor performance and carry out regular reviews in line with company procedures of the hardware engineering staff (Performance Monitoring Process)

  • Co-operate with project managers and product design engineers to plan, control and track all hardware engineering projects in the department

  • Design, development, and evaluation testing of electronics hardware for instrument clusters, body electronics modules and smart power distribution units:

  • Design & develop electronics hardware for clusters, body control and smart J/Bs with focus on cost efficiency and design for manufacturing.

  • Lead Hardware Development projects and coordinate Hardware team members at technical level

  • Provide Key technical specialist/reference role for Automotive electronics design activities

  • Evaluate chosen design directions and confirm their suitability

  • Preparing and issuing of documentation of the electronics hardware design, evaluation testing, release, etc.

  • Discuss electronics hardware design strategies, procedures and solutions with customer.

  • Interface and communicate with other participating Yazaki hardware engineering organisations

  • Interface with component suppliers to assure cost efficient and high-quality product performance

  • Manage Hardware Engineering project deliverables according to SHDP Hardware Development Plan

  • Assure all deliverables meet required quality standards and timescales

  • Support PM/PDL assessment of HW tasks and duration needed for all HW development activities.

  • Report to project team on team progress against plan, presenting potential technical & resource issues, and agreeing countermeasures as necessary.

  • Ensuring timely delivery of all HW project team deliverables

Requirements:

  • Experienced in managing a large team

  • Good level of Project Leadership experience      

  • Design responsibility for 5 Hardware Electronic developments from concept through to mass production     

  • Extensive experience with automotive manufacturing environment and automotive qualification/validation requirements.

  • Extensive experience with engineering of electronics or instrument cluster within the automotive sector

  • Very good presentation preparation and delivery skills.

  • Full valid driving licence to drive in the UK

  • Fluent in English

  • Right to work in the UK - Valid Passport

  • Ability to travel both in the UK and Overseas, sometimes at short notice
