​Position Description:

  • Based primarily in GDEC at Gaydon, the Dimensional engineer will work within Structures Project teams with guidance from Lead Dimensional Engineer.

  • The successful candidate will report into the Body Structures department with matrix responsibility to the Group leader & the Technical Area Lead within the projects assigned.

  • There may occasionally be a need to work at other company manufacturing & design location to suit department needs.

  • Key Performance Indicators:

  • Structures Dimensional YS Brochure Delivery Special Characteristics Summary Sheet (SCSS) creation and delivery GD&T coaching / auditing of CAD Engineers as required.

  • Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

  • Develop Body Structure Dimensional brochure, liaising with component areas to ensure the dimensional requirements for the Body Shell driven by other areas are understood and incorporated into the brochure.

  • Cascade dimensional inputs to the relevant engineers, from initial concept design through to Job 1 implementation.

  • Ensure that the Dimensional content for each panel is adequately cascaded to the suppliers via the SCSS process.

  • Ensure that dimensional content of the Special Characteristics Summary Sheet (SCSS) is fully understood by all involved and correctly completed for each part.

  • Resolve issues with component engineering and vehicle attribute teams to develop designs that meet targets

  • Ensure all appropriate company standards are met throughout design maturation.

  Skills Required:

  • Mechanical or Automotive Engineering Degree

  • Extensive GD&T knowledge (interpretation and specification)

  • CATIA V5/6 Author capability

Experience Required:

  • Knowledge of application of locators to effect the best control.

  • Experience of automotive BIW design, stampings and body construction knowledge.

  • Strong understanding of CATIA V6 3DExperience Good communication and presentation skills to all levels

  • Data analysis and PC skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint Good team player, who is self-motivated to deliver good quality products

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with strong influencing and engagement skills

Experience Preferred:

  • Experience of problem solving tools e.g. 6 panel, PPS (8D), FMEA, Robustness, etc. Familiarity with Digital Variation Analysis (DVA) tools

  • Experience of measurement planning and part scanning and interpretation (GOM Software)
