​Main purpose of the job:

  • Working closely with the Engineering Team (together with OEM and supply base as necessary) to ensure that, from inception, metrology / gauging requirement is fully understood, and the proposals satisfactorily implemented.

  • To efficiently manage the provision of gauging and fixtures as a time-critical programme deliverable, within the overall scope and responsibilities of the Dimensional team.

Main missions and results:

  • Accountable to the Senior Gauging Engineer, responsible for the detail in delivering robust gauging / metrology solutions.

  • Compliance with plant production metrics, and OEM timing.

  • Gauge sign off at suppliers and plants once delivered.

  • To manage the update / finalisation of IAC's generic Gauge Specification.

  • Representing the Dimensional team, to participate in programme drawing and GD&T planning.

  • To work closely with the PDT in agreeing an overall programme gauging strategy, based upon geographical sourcing of IMT's and receiving plant.

  • As part of the overall strategy, to represent the Dimensional Team in determining long term gauge requirements, and suitable fixturing at T0 / T1 trials, given individual product needs.

  • Provide technical support for all aspects of creating and maintaining a preferred IAC gauge supplier listing, based upon a 'Framework Agreement' communicating effectively with IAC Purchasing personnel. This to accommodate ongoing risk (and Total Cost of Ownership) analysis.

  • Provide ongoing VFM support for negotiations with OEM so as to meet individual pro-gramme cost and timing constraints.

  • To facilitate the necessary links with suitable suppliers to ensure, as necessary, ongoing part design development familiarity.

  • During the part design process, to act as conduit between IAC Product Design and supplier with regards to obtaining gauge implications, acknowledging individual plant preferences.

  • Liaise with Manufacturing personnel to confirm that gauge configurations are sympathetic to planned process flow.

  • Ensure that gauge designs adhere fully to latest issue IAC Gauging Specification.

  • Critically analyse robustness of supplier design and manufacturing timeline.

  • Closely monitor supplier's adherence to timeline at mutually agreed intervals, with visits / utilizing photographic evidence of progress, as appropriate to manufacturing location, reporting regularly.

  • Act as principal point of contact for all communications with supplier.

  • Throughout the period of manufacture and introduction to plant, manage gauging elements of ECR's, providing VFM support, as necessary, for Purchasing initiatives.

  • Manage the completion and supply of all gauging equipment documentation packs.

  • To audit gauge / fixture providers and, with IAC Purchasing involvement, create a preferred supplier listing.

  • With IAC Purchasing, to negotiate, and VFM analyse, individual supplier costs, as required by the programme.

  • To consider alternative sourcing routes -for example toolmaker provision -providing sup-porting cost effectiveness studies.

Preferred skills and experience:

Essential:

  • Substantial experience in metrology related functions within a toolmaking / process / secondary equipment manufacturing environment, covering manufacturing processes routinely utilised in IAC programmes -conventional injection moulding, twin-shot, back injection, IMD, slush -PU / TPO skin etc.

  • Previous exposure to Automotive Industry methods and approach.

  • Evidence of managing the detail of time-critical programme deliverables.

  • Ability to negotiate -on equal terms -with supplier representatives, regarding both technical and commercial issues.

  • Well-developed time management and interpersonal skills.

  • Basic TI Mid-level GD&T

  • Plastic Component experience

  • Gauge R and R / Gauge R Knowledge

  • Dim Standards knowledge

  • Trained in the use of Auto. Ind. recognised CAD software.

  • PPAP/PSW Knowledge.
