Main purpose of the job:

  • Development of final design CAD data within the engineering team ensuring that all product designs are manufacturing and tooling feasible, and meet the program requirements.

Main objectives and results:

  • Uses Catia V5/V6 to develop complex Interior Trim automotive assemblies from A[1]Surface in line with injection moulding best practices for tooling, assembly, package, and costing.

  • Works between Tier One and OEM Engineering Teams to present and negotiate and resolve issues with product design and specifications.

  • Uses Enovia V6 and 3Dexperience to release geometry into the OEM.

  • Understand and applies GD&T in line with component performance and material tolerances.

  • Confidently presents design reviews at all business levels.

  • Ensures that product designs consider: Design for assembly, Design for manufacture, Quality functional deployment, Finite element analysis data, Dimensional variation analysis (In conjunction with DVA specialist).

  • Creates additional data sets as required by the program e.g. 2D drawing, section book, visualization files, exploded views etc. acc. IAC internal & customer requirements.

  • Pulling out and archiving CAD data into internal and customer-based data applications (e.g. PDM systems).

  • Prepare perspective illustrations to improve concept visualization and understanding.

  • Utilizes CAD and manual design equipment with emphasis on compatibility.

  • Support all general activities within his / her scope of work.

  • Office based (Solihull) in line with IAC UK Policy of Tuesday to Thursday working from the office.

  • Awareness of Tissx and protocols to work within.

Preferred skills and experience:

  • Proven experience in automotive instrument panel or interior trim design or 3 years’ experience in automotive interior design

  • Knowledge of headliner, pillar trim, trunk and loadspace assemblies as injection moulding, post wrapped and compression formed parts preferred

Preferred skills and experience:

  • Knowledge of customer requirements and company manufacturing product and processes

  • Experience in surface development desirable

  • Specific experience in using the following Catia V5/V6 modules:Part Design, Generative Shape Design, Assembly Design, Drafting, Functional Tolerancing and Annotation(V5)/3D Tolerancing and Annotation( V6), DMU Space Analysis (V5)

  • Familiarity with the various 3DX Enovia collaboration tools and methods for customer collaboration and releasing.

  • Fluent English

  • Analytical approach to problem

  • Knowledge of problem-solving techniques

  • Good verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
